IDL COURT RULING

The British Darts Organisation understands that a ruling in the Dutch courts on April 25th has ordered that the four PDC ‘wild card’ players – Mervyn King, Jelle Klassen, Michael Van Gerwen and Vincent van der Voort – must play in the Preliminary Round of the Topic International Darts League on Friday, May 4th.

The players went to court claiming that, in their opinion, they should be allowed to compete in the First Round proper of the IDL without any prior qualification.

It is further understood by the BDO that this claim was rejected by the court and now, as previously agreed in an out of court settlement by the promoter and broadcaster with the British Darts Organisation (April 13th),  the 4 players will have to play in the 32 man Preliminary qualifying round before the main event gets under way.

The Preliminary Round will produce 8 players who will go through to the First Round proper on Saturday, May 5th.

The 2007 IDLwill be played from May 5th to 13th and comprise eight four-man groups of 12 BDO/WDF players from the final IDL Invitation Table, 12 players from the PDC Order of Merit and the eight qualifiers from the Preliminary Round.

Unfortunately, Ted Hankey and John Walton from the Top 12 of the BDO/WDF rankings, have decided to turn down the invitation to compete, as have a number of other players, due to the uncertainty of the last few weeks.

INACCURATE REPORT CONCERNING 2007 INTERNATIONAL DARTS LEAGUE

Our report concerning the players taking part in the International Darts League 2007 was inaccurate. The report stated that the 28 named players had "accepted" their invitations to play in the event. We are reliably informed that this is not the case and that some players have not yet confirmed their invitations.

BRITISH DARTS ORGANISATION Press Release issued 13/4/07

OUT OF COURT SETTLEMENT SECURES THE RIGHTS OF BDO/WDF PLAYERS IN IDL AND WDT

An out of court settlement securing the rights of BDO/WDF players in the two top Dutch tournaments – the Topic International Darts League and World Darts Trophy – was finalised yesterday by the British Darts Organisation.

This follows the BDO decision to issue a writ in the District Court of Amsterdam against promoter Maximum Score BV and broadcaster SBS Broadcasting BV requiring them to abide by their obligations in the Participation Agreement that the BDO signed with them in August 2006.

The Participation Agreement guaranteed that at least 28 BDO/WDF players will participate in the 2007 IDL and WDT events, but up until yesterday (April 12) afternoon such participation remained in jeopardy.

The settlement that has now been agreed (in consultation with the IDPA) guarantees the participation of 28 BDO/WDF players and 28 PDC players in the 2007 and 2008 IDL and WDT events, and sets out a long-term framework for the participation in these events beyond 2008.

The 2007 IDL event will start on Friday, May 4th, with a preliminary round robin between 16 BDO/WDF players and 16 PDC players. The players invited to participate in the preliminary round will comprise: those ranked 13 to 28 in the BDO/WDF IDL Final Invitation Table; those placed 13 to 16 in the PDC Order of Merit at April 3rd; the four players given promoters’ wild cards, and eight PDC qualifiers from an event in Birmingham on April 21st.

The 32 players in the preliminary round robin will be divided into eight groups of four players, with the eight group winners progressing to the main event commencing on Saturday, May 5th

The main draw will comprise: The top 12 BDO/WDF players in the BDO rankings (8 of whom will be seeded), and the top 12 players in the PDC Order of Merit (8 of whom will also be seeded).

Overall prize money for the 2007 IDL will be as follows:

          WINNER:         30,000 EUROS

          R/up:                15,000 EUROS

          S/Finalists:       7,500 EUROS

          Q/Finalists:       4,500 EUROS

          9TH-17TH:          3,000 EUROS

          1ST Rd:              2,000 EUROS

Highest Checkout:       1,000 EUROS

Olly Croft, Managing Director of BDO Enterprises Ltd says:

“During these unfortunate proceedings our main priority has been to protect the livelihood of our players. The 28 who have (and will) earn the right to compete in the 2007 IDL and WDT, will now take their rightful place in these events, and we are delighted for them and for the fact that common sense and fairness has prevailed.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who took part in negotiating the settlement just 24 hours before we were due in court”.

The 2007 Topic International Darts League will be played from Friday, May 4th to Sunday, May 13th in the Triavium, Nijmegen, The Netherlands, and the 2007 WDT will be played from Friday, August 31st to Sunday, September 9th.  Both events will be broadcast by SBS.

MAJOR BDO DARTS BACK IN BRIDLINGTON:

BDO BRITISH INTERNATIONALS:  LEISURE WORLD, BRIDLINGTON. 28 - 29 APRIL 2007

The 28th staging of the hugely competitive BDO British International Team Championships at Leisure World, Bridlington, will see the home nations of Wales and Scotland determined to end the winning runs of England Men and England Women.

England Men are on a high following their impressive victory in the Six Nations Cup in February, and remain unbeaten in these Internationals since 2001.  England Women can boast an even better record, because they are unbeaten since 1999!

This year is also unique for England, because both Captains are the reigning 2007 Lakeside World Professional Darts Champions.

Martin Adams won the famous title in January following an epic final with Phill Nixon, who has been recalled to the England Squad for these Internationals.  And Trina Gulliver made it a ‘Magnificent Seven’ when she collected her 7th World Pro title at Lakeside just a few months ago.  Both are worthy World Champions as well as being wonderful ambassadors for the sport of darts.

Yorkshire’s very own Scott Waites is back in the England squad, and very much the in-form player of the year. Both he and England favourite John "Boy" Walton are Bradford born.

Scott, proud captain of Yorkshire’s table-topping Premier League county side, won his first ever major – the Dutch Open - in February, and then followed up with runner-up spot in the Scottish Open and victory in the recent Welsh Masters.

Scotland Men, who last won this title in 2000, will be keen to repeat that victory here this weekend. Certainly they have great players in their ranks, including two who performed very well at Lakeside this year – Captain Mike Veitch and the ever-consistent Paul Hanvidge.

Wales Men are captained by Martin Phillips, who was back at Lakeside again this year and is now Wales’ most capped player of all time. He is joined by Lakeside debutant Mark Webster (both left-handers) who is the reigning WDF Europe Cup Singles Champion. They will be hoping to inspire Wales Men to their first ever BDO British Internationals title.

“These Internationals are always fiercely contested because both personal and national pride is at stake”, says Olly Croft of  the BDO. “We are certainly in for another great weekend of darts in Bridlington, but in addition to the players, we must send our grateful thanks to all the dedicated officials who give up so much of their time to ensure the smooth running of these Internationals.

“Not forgetting, of course, our wonderful hosts here in Bridlington for their warm welcome and generous hospitality, and all the darts fans in and around the resort who give such great support”.

These 2007 BDO British Internationals, featuring Men’s 12 a-side and Women’s 6 a-side teams, are presented by the BDO in conjunction with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the schedule of play is as follows:

The success of the Dutch team was complimented by the win of Rilana Erades in the Women's Singles. Rilana beat her team mate Karin Krappen in the final.

The Semi-Finals of the Men's Singles saw two German players contesting one match (Andy Kröckel and Karsten Koch) and two Belgians (Geert De Vos and Fabien Theeten) contesting the other one. De Vos and Kröckel made the final with De Vos taking the title in straight sets (2-0  2-1).
