ROYAL
CONGRATULATIONS FOR BARNEY
Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands sent a personal
letter of congratulation to RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD within minutes of his
fourth Lakeside World Professional Darts Championship victory.
The faxed letter
bearing the royal crown arrived at the British Darts Organisation press
office at Lakeside and was immediately translated by the large
contingent of Dutch media present for the final.
But that wasn’t
the only official gesture by The Netherlands.
The Dutch
Ambassador in London arrived in the official embassy car, registration
NL 1, and brought with him the Dutch Sports Minister, Clemence van Dorp,
who flew over to attend the Champions dinner and congratulate Raymond
personally.
A strong
supporter of darts, she read Queen Beatrix’s message to Raymond, and
then delivered an inspiring and wonderfully supportive speech on behalf
of darts.
Chelsea
superstar and Dutch International ARJEN ROBBEN was also in the Lakeside
audience to cheer Raymond to victory.
It was the
perfect end to a perfect day for the Dutchman dubbed ‘The Man’. He has
now been in five World finals at Lakeside and won four of them. He’s
already planning to make it five in 2006. |
