NEWSLINE 30TH JUNE 2005
DARTS QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA GO NEW WAYS TO HELP
SCHOOLCHILDREN.
HOT SHOT DARTS
A MODIFIED GAME OF DARTS FOR JUNIORS
(WITH EMPHASIS ON PRIMARY SCHOOL
CHILDREN)
Queensland Darts under
the Guidance of the State Coaching Director (& also National
Coaching Director) Judy Taylor is introducing Queensland Primary
Schools to this modified game of Darts.
The Board is a modified
version of a normal dart board with the use of the same colours as a
normal board and the use of larger areas to define the doubles
trebles etc.
The Darts are called a
soft Tip Dart and are generally a Plastic point.
This factor allows for
a more safety conscious aspect than the normal game of darts where
metal points could be far to dangerous to be used by children within
the school environment.
1. Games format is at present being
developed with the emphasis on teaching basic skills of the game.
2. It is also an ideal tool for math's
teachers to use to assist students in improving their mathematical
skills.
3. If your school is interested in
introducing "Hot Shot" into the school's activities
please contact Judy Taylor on 0749288895 or email
qdasect@hotkey.net.au
4. Queensland Darts will assist in the best
way we can to get you started with this project.
5. At the present time we have sent out the
program to 24 Primary Schools in Queensland to guage the interest.
6. Queensland darts participates in the
National Coaching Accreditation program and members are required to
hold a Blue card to work with children
The WDF says: "Well done Queensland, keep up the
good work".
ANOTHER 9 DARTER "DOWN UNDER"
 |
Queenslander
Pat Orreal produced a perfect 9 dart leg in
the deciding leg of the
"A grade" Grand Final against Russell Homer at the
Caboolture PCYC Darts Association on Monday 27th June. Pat
threw 180, 180, then the 141 finish with treble 17, treble
18 and double 18 for the game. The WDF sends its
congratulations to Pat on this wonderful achievement. |

WOMEN'S BRITISH PENTATHLON 2005
 |
The 2005 Women's British Pentathlon was played
today. Defending Champion Trina Gulliver had few
problems retaining her title. Her winning score of 359 points was
well below the 410 she scored last year but it was still a very
impressive performance.
