Note:

Initially players like Francis Hoenselaar and Co Stompé are not selected for the  teams because they do not meet the required criteria, however they can be selected later because of their special status in the Netherlands (they do meet the requirement that they have participated in 20 international events (EC, WC etc). The teams to represent the Netherlands in the WDF World Cup will be selected later this year.

WALES RETAIN THEIR SQUAD FOR THE WDF WORLD CUP

The Welsh Darts Organisation have announced their teams for the forthcoming WDF World Cup. They retain the entire squad which represented them in the WDF Europe Cup in the Republic of Ireland last year.

     MEN: 

                       Robert Hughes (Pembrokeshire) Martin Phillips (Gwynedd)

                       Wayne Warren (Glamorgan) and Mark Webster (Clwyd)

     WOMEN:

                       Julie Gore (Pembrokeshire) and Jan Robbins (Gwent)

NEW ZEALAND TO ARRANGE A TOURNAMENT WITH THE NEW "POKER-DART" GAME BOARD

The New Zealand Darts Council have announced a new Open Pairs Tournament which will be included in the 2007 New Zealand Championships. This "fun" event will be played on the revolutionary Poker-Dart board and will make an interesting addition to the championships. We look forward with interest to a report from this competition.

DARTS ON THE THEATRE STAGE:  LAKESIDE CELEBRATION TOUR

	The reigning Lakeside World Professional Champions - MARTIN ADAMS and TRINA GULLIVER  will be touring the country in a darts based entertainment show, hosted by MARTIN FITZMAURICE, which guarantees a night of unique theatre entertainment for darts fans.   Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams won the 2007 Lakeside World Championship in front of a sell-out audience at Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green ‘the home of World Darts’ and a BBC audience of 4 million in January.
He now takes to the stage with ‘The Golden Girl’ of darts, Trina Gulliver, the unbeaten and seven times Lakeside Women’s World Champion. Both she and Martin are the current England captains.   Holding the show together with a mix of his own brand of humour and darts knowledge,  Martin Fitzmaurice is seen every year hosting both the Lakeside World Championships and the Winmau World Masters for BBC TV Sport,  and there is no more famous catchphrase in World Darts than Martin’s invitation to: ‘Let’s Play Darts!’
	The Celebration Tour will give audiences the opportunity to not only see the darting skills of Martin and Trina, but also to take part and enjoy the experience of sharing the oche with two World Champions and two England Captains at the same time.   Throw in lots of laughs from Martin Fitzmaurice, add plenty of audience participation, and you have the recipe for a night of ‘fun darts’ the likes of which you will never have never seen or experienced before!   It’s a show not to be missed.

The England teams for the 2007 World Cup were announced late last week, the teams are:

          MEN:  Martin Adams, Tony Eccles, Tony O'Shea and John Walton

          WOMEN:  Trina Gulliver and Apylee Jones

WORLD DARTS TROPHY 2007: FINAL INVITATION TABLE

The Final Table for qualification to the 2007 World Darts Trophy is now available in the "Tables" section. New players expected to make their debut in the event are Austrian Dietmar Burger and Michael Rosenauer from Germany. Finland's Jarkko Komula will make a welcome return to the big stage after a couple of years with indifferent form due to injury.

MEDITERRANEAN CUP 2007

The international teams from Bulgaria,  Cyprus, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Italy and Malta are meeting this weekend in Eretria, Evia Island in Greece for the 8th Mediterranean Cup. The WDF is present at the event and we hope to bring you a full report from the event, with frequent updates during the course of the event.

BDO ANNOUNCE 2007 WORLD MASTERS AND 2008 WORLD PROFESSIONAL

The British Darts Organisation is delighted to announce the BBC  scheduled dates for the two most prestigious televised Championships in World Darts: the WINMAU WORLD MASTERS (played annually since 1974) and the WORLD PROFESSIONAL DARTS CHAMPIONSHIPS (played annually since 1978).

The 2007 WINMAU WORLD MASTERS will be played at Leisure World, Bridlington on November 16^th, 17^th and 18^th, with the Saturday (17th) and Sunday (18th) Men’s Masters matches being televised exclusively by BBC TV Sport.

The 2008 LAKESIDE WORLD PROFESSIONAL DARTS CHAMPIONSHIPS will be played at ‘the home of  World Darts’, Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green, Surrey, and televised by BBC TV Sport, BBC Worldwide, BBCi, SBS-6 Holland and Eurosport, for nine consecutive days from Saturday, January 5^th to Sunday, January 13^th, 2008.

The International Play-Offs for the 2008 World Professional will be played at Leisure World, Bridlington on Thursday, November 15^th.

“These two BBC televised World Championships provide the most coveted titles in World Darts”, says Olly Croft of the BDO. “Since their inception, both have established themselves as the very best in terms of global participation, competitiveness and kudos.

“The World Masters is unique in providing four World titles: Men’s, Women’s, Boys and Girls, and the World Professional has produced a Men’s World title since 1978, and a Women’s World title since 2001. 

“Both of these great World Championships are made more unique because each provides women players with their own stand alone World Titles.

“There isn’t a darts player anywhere in the world who doesn’t dream of being crowned Winmau World Master or Lakeside World Pro Champion.  They are titles which truly encapsulate all the history of World Darts, and the status that goes with them.

“Both are open to the 250,000 playing members of the World Darts Federation (now officially recognised as the worldwide governing body for darts) whose 64 member nations are representative of all  six continents around the globe.   

“World Titles do not get any bigger or more prestigious than the World Masters and World Professional – they have been looking after the future of the sport of darts since the 1970s, and will continue to do so by giving players – men, women and youth – the opportunities to develop from grass roots level, right through to National, International, World and Professional levels.”

HUNGARIAN OPEN 2007: WINS FOR REMCO VAN EIJDEN AND MARKETA ABADZIEVOVA

Remco van Eijden from the Netherlands and Marketa Abadzievova from the Czech Republic were the winners of the 2007 Hungarian Open which was played in Budapest at the weekend. The Men's Singles proved to be a very popular event indeed with an entry of 196 players from 12 countries.  Daniel van Mourik from the Netherlands won the Youth event which completed a very sucessful weekend for the van Mouriks.

RANKING AND INVITATION TABLES: LATEST UPDATES

Scotland's Gary Anderson returns to the top of the WDF World Rankings as a result of his great showing in the IDL. In the updated table published today Gary has 832 points which gives him a massive 146 point lead over 2nd placed Tony Eccles. Former Nr. 1 Martin Adams drops to 3rd place.

In the Women's Rankings England's "Golden Girl" Trina Gulliver has an even bigger lead. Her total of 988 points puts her 190 points ahead of Karin Krappen of the Netherlands with Francis Hoenselaar a close third.

Martin Adams remains top of the BDO invitational leader-board with 80 points, Scott Waites and Tony O'Shea share the runner-up spot just three points behind. In the women's table Karin Krappen tops the list with 90 points followed by Francis Hoenselaar and Trina Gulliver.

INTERNATIONAL DARTS LEAGUE 2007: GARY ANDERSON WINS HIS FIRST TV MAJOR

Scotland's "Dreamboy" Gary anderson lifted his first major TV Title when he defeated Welshman Mark Webster by 13 sets to 9. Anderson did not reach the standards he had achieved earlier in the week but was always in the lead, and in control, against an opponent who never gave up.

The Youth event saw Pascal van Mourik come from behind to pip Ritchie George at the post in a sudden death deciding leg. Both boys played some excellent darts, and with young players like these continually coming through the future for our sport looks very good indeed.

INTERNATIONAL DARTS LEAGUE 2007:  WEBSTER AND ANDERSON IN THE FINAL

England's Tony O'Shea had a "bad day at the office" in this evenings IDL Semi-Final against Welshman Mark Webster. Nothing went right for O'Shea and Webster earned a convincing 9 sets to 1 victory without being extended in any way.

The second Semi-Final followed a similar pattern. This time it was Adrian Lewis who could not find any consistency. Anderson, while not at his brilliant best ran out an easy 9 - 1 winner.

INTERNATIONAL DARTS LEAGUE 2007:  ANDERSON, O'SHEA, LEWIS AND WEBSTER TO THE SEMI'S

GARY ANDERSON not only kept his unbeaten run going, but lived up to his ‘Dreamboy’ nickname with a dream quarter final against James Wade. He won 6-3, with yet another 35 plus single dart average that included a magnificent 12 maximums! After the first 5 sets Anderson’s single dart average was an incredible 38!

But it was left to TONY O’SHEA to pull off the win of the quarter finals with an impressive 6-4 triumph over defending IDL Champion Raymond Barneveld. 

Barney was favourite to progress to the Semi-Finals, and when Tony went 3-1 down early in the match, it looked ominous for the England International.  However, Tony levelled at 4-4 after the interval and then won the last two sets in imperious style.

It was a great win –probably the sweetest of his career - and made even more so by the fact that the sponsors, Opel Nederland,  presented him with the keys to a brand new Tigra convertible (valued at 25,000 Euros) to mark his 46^th birthday 9-darter on Wednesday night.

Having already presented Phil Taylor with the same car on Tuesday night when he hit the first 9-darter in this year’s IDL, the sponsors made it a unique  ‘double’ to not only celebrate Tony’s

9 darter, but also his memorable win over Raymond Barneveld.

In the third Semi-Final Adrian Lewis beat Darryl Fitton in an all England encounter. The match was even until the break, but after the restart Lewis pulled away for a comfortable win.

Welsh "comet" Mark Webster took the last semi-final place with a comfortable but undistinguished win over England's Gary Robson in which neither player could find any sort of form or consistency.

INTERNATIONAL DARTS LEAGUE 2007

Last night saw the final matches in the Round Robin section of the IDL. Stars who fell by the wayside included Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen, Wayne Mardle, Mark Dudbridge and Martin Adams.

The IDL live streaming was a great disappointment and reports tell us that many fans throughout Europe experienced constant problems, if indeed they received a stream at all. Let us hope that SBS6 can sort out the problems before this evenings matches.

INTERNATIONAL DARTS LEAGUE 2007

The 2007 International darts League has produced some excellent darts so far. The standard has been high and after the completion of the First Round Groups last night household names such as Mervyn King, Roland Scholten, John Part, Peter Manley, Colin Lloyd, Co Stompe, Jelle Klassen, Dennis Priestley and Ronnie Baxter were all eliminated from the competition.

The second Round Group matches start this evening and we can look forward to some exciting matches.
