ALL ROADS LEAD TO LAKESIDE IN 2006

International Play-Offs complete the line-up.

Top players from over thirty countries entered the 2005 Lakeside International Play-Offs at The Spa Royal Hall, Bridlington, and the following seven Men and two Women have qualified to compete in the 2006 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships at Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green from Saturday, January 7th to Sunday, January 15th:

MEN:

          JELLE KLAASEN (NETHERLANDS)

          ULF CEDER (FINLAND)

          STEPHEN ROBERTS (ENG)

          DENNIS HARBOUR (ENG)

          ROSS MONTGOMERY (SCOT)

          BRIAN WOODS (ENG)

          GERALD PORTER (REP OF IRELAND)

Jelle Klaasen  is the latest Dutch sensation to reach Lakeside. He is now one of a record-breaking seven Dutch men players in the First Round at Lakeside. Youngest player this year is his fellow countryman, the exciting and talented Mareno Michels.

There are also two Dutch ladies at Lakeside in 2006, Francisca Hoenselaar and Karin Krappen

A total of twelve players will make their Lakeside debuts in January: Nine Men and three Women.  Players from over thirty countries entered the Lakeside International Play-Offs and six countries will be represented in the Men’s World Professional and four in the Women’s World Professional.

Scottish qualifier Ross Montgomery played American Football with the Glasgow Diamonds for 11 years, and met his wife Dorothy when she was a cheerleader for the team.  He took up darts when he had to retire with an injury.

The longest waits were for the two standby players Sabine Beutler, the first ever player from Switzerland at Lakeside, and Gerald Porter, who becomes only the fifth Republic of Ireland player to compete in the World Pro. His became the most nerve-wracking when Sweden’s Göran Klemme raced to a surprising 3-0 lead against the reigning and four times Lakeside World Professional Champion Raymond van Barneveld in the 2005 Winmau World Masters Final. He breathed a huge sigh of relief when the reigning and four times Lakeside World Professional Champion finally won 7-3.

WOMEN:

          KAREN LITTLER (Somerset)

          KAREN LAWMAN (Yorkshire)

          SABINE BEUTLER (Switzerland)

Jan Robbins is the only Welsh player at Lakeside in 2006.

Karen Lawman was formerly Karen Smith.  She reverted to her maiden name after a promise she made to her father before he sadly passed away.

ANDY’S A TV STAR……AGAIN….AND AGAIN

ANDY FORDHAM has always been one of the most popular personalities in darts, but he’s become a major TV celebrity since being seen by 4.6 million BBC viewers when he was crowned the BDO’s 2004 Lakeside World Professional Darts Champion.

He starred in this year’s top-rating ‘Celebrity Fit Club’ and has made guest appearances on countless TV shows, including ‘Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’, ‘A Question Of Sport’, Sky TV’s ‘Brainiack’, ITV’s ‘The Paul O’Grady Show’ and many more.

No darts player has made so many diverse TV appearances, and his successes off the oche just continue to get better and better.

On Saturday, October 22nd he will join the hugely popular

Ant & Dec in a 2005 version of ITV’s ‘Bullseye’, and among a whole range of guest appearances coming up are ‘Ready Steady Joe’ with ‘King of The Jungle’ Joe Pasquale, ‘Titti-Titti-Bang-Bang’ for comedians Vic Reeves & Bob Mortimer’s production company ‘Pet Productions’ , as well as a one off special of ‘Celebrity Fit Club’.

These together with many more guest appearances in several top shows (some of which cannot be mentioned at the moment) will see Andy on our screens continually throughout the coming months.

Studio guests for the first of  ‘Ant & Dec’s Game Show Marathon’ series when TV’s most popular twosome re-created ‘The Price Is Right’, Andy and wife Jenny were prominent in the star-studded audience.

“Everyone loves Andy and he’s become a favourite of the Celebs”, says his manager Dave Richards. “One of his biggest surprises came in the after show party of ‘Ant & Dec’s The Price Is Right’ when singer Robbie Williams was keen on meeting him and they became instant friends. It is also rumoured that Oasis star Liam Gallagher was very disappointed at not meeting Andy when he had to cancel his ‘Hells Kitchen’ appearance earlier in the year.

“I wouldn’t be surprised at seeing both of them at Lakeside in January, because in addition to being huge Andy Fordham fans, they love their darts – and so do Ant & Dec.  We could be having a showbiz party of our own during the 2006 Lakeside World Pro”.
