THE RICHEST TWO-DAY TELEVISED TOURNAMENT IN WORLD DARTS

£60,000 PRIZE MONEY FOR 2007 WINMAU WORLD MASTERS

The 2007 Winmau World Masters will become the richest televised two-day tournament in world darts when it is screened by BBC Sport over the weekend of Saturday, November 17th and Sunday, November 18th from Leisure World, Bridlington. Staged by the British Darts  Organisation, it will have record-breaking prize money of £60,000 -  with the Men’s World Master collecting a cheque for £25,000 – and for the first time ever JJB Sports will be secondary sponsor.

Proudly announcing this, Ian Flack, Sales & Marketing Director of the Winmau Dartboard Company says: “We are absolutely delighted to be doubling the total prize fund this year. It clearly reflects the commitment we gave to the players and  everyone  connected with these great Championships when we signed our 5 year agreement with the British Darts Organisation last year.

“We are also delighted to be welcoming JJB Sports, the leading sports retailer who are now selling the Winmau range nationwide,  as our secondary sponsor and official shirt patch sponsor for 2007”.

Paul Grey of JJB Sports says: “The sport of darts and the Winmau World Masters mirror our profile perfectly, because darts is an exciting and highly competitive sport and like JJB, Winmau is a brand leader. “We are more than happy to be the official Winmau shirt-patch sponsors for the BBC televised Winmau World Masters, and look forward to welcoming darts players and supporters to JJB Sports outlets nationwide”.

Ian Flack adds: “Jackpotjoy.com will once again be the official BDO shirt patch sponsor, and everyone at Winmau would like to thank East Riding of Yorkshire Council for their ongoing support and generosity since we moved the Masters here in 2002.

“Those same thanks go to BBC Sport, who will be screening more than seven hours of live coverage over the weekend of November 17th and 18th.  It means that the 2007 Winmau World Masters will be the biggest and best ever in terms of prize money and TV coverage – quite an impressive double!” Returning to Leisure World, Bridlington from Friday, November 16th to Sunday, November 18th, the Winmau World Masters is a true World Championship with players from 69 countries being invited, including darts champions from over 140 national and international events worldwide.

“Approximately 300 players from more than thirty countries will be in Bridlington for this year’s World Masters”, says Olly Croft of the BDO, “and after 34 consecutive years, we are proud that as the oldest established major in world darts (1974-2007), the World Masters not only enjoys so much darts history, but the Masters titles are also coveted by darts players worldwide. “The fantastic increase in prize money is made even more special by the fact that competing players do not have to pay entry fees to the BDO to compete in one of the most prestigious tournaments in World Darts”. The only major in world darts with four separate finals - Men, Women, Boys and Girls – the Winmau World Masters attracts thousands of darts players, officials and supporters from right around the globe to Bridlington.

Alan Menzies, Assistant Chief Executive of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council says: “We are proud that Bridlington is continuing to stage the Winmau World Masters, and East Riding of Yorkshire Council is happy to be integral to establishing the BBC televised finals as the richest two-day darts tournament in the world. “We would like to thank Winmau and the British Darts Organisation for bringing such a wonderful tournament to Bridlington and the East Riding of Yorkshire, and we look forward to welcoming darts players and supporters from all over the world.”
