Match report: Martin Adams  3   v   1  Darryl Fitton

 

 

 

 

 

This was expected to be a classic encounter, and it was Darryl with the darts. Neither player found the big scores but Darryl held the darts with a 19 darter. Darryl started to pressure Martin in leg two and a 180 gave him a big lead and he left 40 after 12 darts. He needed just one dart for the checkout and a 2 legs to nil lead. Darryl continued to score well while Martin was hitting nothing. A 15 darter secured the first set without problems.

Martin improved his game in the first leg of set two and held his throw in 17 darts. He pressured Darryl in leg two but Darryl held on for a 16 darter to level the set. Martin started leg three with a 140 and was on 64 after 12 darts with Darryl back on 144. Martin made no mistake and a 15 darter gave him a 2 legs to one lead in the set. Both men scored well in leg four and both missed several doubles before Martin checked out on D5 for the second set.

It was Darryl with the darts but he was outscored by Martin. Again both players missed doubles but Martin took the leg with D2. Martin was now looking more confident and he was down to D20 after 12 darts. He needed all three darts to extend his lead to two legs to nil. Darryl came back strongly in leg three but missed three chances to check out from D20. However he came back and took D2 to reduce the arrears. Martin was now throwing for the set and after a couple of poor scores a maximum followed by a ton left him on 80 after 12 darts with Darryl well behind. Marin missed his first three darts but took out D10 first dart for a 16 darter and the third set

Set four saw Martin with the darts but under enormous pressure from Darryl who missed D7 for the leg. Martin stayed cool and checked out from 76 with a D20 finish to take the first leg. Both players continued to pound the T20 in leg two. Darryl left 36 after 12 darts and made no mistake with his 13th dart to level the set. Both players opened with 140's in leg three and it was Darryl with the first shot at D20. He missed and Martin again made no mistake to move within one leg of the match. Leg three saw Fitton, with the help of a 180 take a big lead. He narrowly missed a 102 checkout for 12 darts but came back nest throw to level the set. Martin was now throwing for the match but only managed a 60 score. Martin had what could have been a crucial bounce-out in his third throw but he came back with a 140 and made no mistake hitting D8 for the match.
