Paul started the match and both players started well. Hanvidge narrowly missed a 116 checkout but came back to win in 14 darts. Leg two saw Paul pressure Simon from the start with a 140. Both players then threw loose darts but Paul was best leaving 161 after 12 darts. however he missed his chances and Simon came back with a 180 then checked out on D9 to level the match. Simon scored best in leg three and left 110 after 12 darts Paul left 56 and checked out on D20 after Simon had missed a single dart at D20. Paul hit a 180 in leg four and Simon replied with 171, the leg stayed even with Simon retaining the advantage. Simon missed from 48 and Paul then missed from 60. Simon made no mistake with D4 next throw to level the set. Simon pressured paul with a 140 at the start of the leg and followed with a 131. Paul replied with 140 and 125. Paul missed from 116 then Simon narrowly missed the bull. Paul made a mess of his chance and Simon took the first set wth a 25 checkout.

Both players hit some big scores in the first leg of set two and they both faltered. Simon narrowly missed from 129 but came back to take the leg with D4. Both players started with 140's in leg two, but it was Paul who forged ahead leaving D12 after 12 darts. A 180 from Simon did not stop Paul checking out on D6 for the leg. Paul continued to score well in leg three and a 137 left him on D12. He hit it first dart and took the lead 2-1 in the set. Paul was now throwing for the set. He scored best at the start but a score of 7 let Simon back in the leg, a brace of 140\s left Simon on D8 and he checked out with D4 for the leg. Simon had the advantage of the darts but both players struggled at the start of the leg. A late 180 set Simon up with D18 but he narrowly missed with all three darts. He checked out next throw with D4 then D14 for the set and a two set lead.

Another maximum from Simon in the first leg put Paul under pressure but Paul was confident and hit D12 for a 13 darter. Paul pressured the Whitlock throw in leg two and he left 40 after 12 darts. Simon missed from 90 and Paul took out D20 first dart for a 2-0 lead in the set. Paul had the darts for the set but it was Simon who hit the big scores and another maximum left him on 41 after 9 darts. He made no mistake with an 11 darter and educed the arrears to a single leg. Two low scores in the middle of leg four gave Paul a chance at 56 but he missed his chance and Simon levelled the set with D10. Paul now had the darts for the set and both players hit 140's. A late 140 gave Simon the edge and he narrowly missed from 80. Paul then hit D14 to win the set.

Set two saw Paul apply the pressure again but Simon responded well but a 101 checkout gave Paul the leg against the darts. Paul started leg two with 45 and Simon punished him with a brace of 140's followed by a 131 to leave 90. He missed leaving 16 but Paul checked out on 131 for a 2 leg lead. Leg three saw Paul hit a maximum in the middle of the leg to leave 166. A ton followed  but he missed the checkout. Simon them missed 3 darts at the double before Paul took the leg and the set with D9 to level the match.

Set five saw both players hitting big scores Simon scored best and he left D16. Paul was on D14 and made no mistake to take yet another leg. Simon got back in the groove with a 180 in the middle of leg two he left 66 after 12 darts with Paul well behind. Simon missed D16. He then missed three darts at the double. Both players missed again before Simon eventually hit D1 for the leg. Both players were back in scoring form in leg three and Paul was on 64 after 12 darts. He checked out in three darts to lead 2-1 in the set. Simon started in leg four and again the scoring was even. But a late 177 from Paul set up D12 which he took out first dart to lead by three sets to two.

Simon had the darts in set six and he looked to be feeling the pressure. He missed a big 18 to give Paul a chance but Paul missed it and Simon came back to take the leg on D16.  Leg two saw Paul get a good lead leaving 24 after 12 darts with Simon back on 252. Paul made no mistake and a 13 dart leg levelled the set. Paul continued with his consistent 100 scores while Simon failed to find the trebles. Paul was on 106 after 12 darts with Simon way back. He narrowly missed the finish but made no mistake next throw with D16.Paul was now throwing for the match and could not find the treble in his first 9 darts. Simon was on 104 after 12 darts and narrowly missed D4 with his last dart. He came back to hit the double next throw and level the set. Simon now had the darts but he was struggling against the consistent Paul. However Paul opened the door for Simon with a 41 score. Simon had 3 darts a D14 which he missed, then Paul missed two darts at D20. Simon then bust D7 and Paul stepped in to hit D10 for the match.
