Beau Greaves, Chris Landman and Adam Dee all won their semi-finals in impressive fashion as the finals for the 2023 CT1 WDF Lakeside World Championship were confirmed.
Glorious Greaves breezes past O’Sullivan
World Champion Beau Greaves produced one of the highest averages in the history of the Women’s World Championship as she beat Rhian O’Sullivan 3-0 in the semi-finals.
Greaves kicked off the match with a 75 finish but O’Sullivan levelled up immediately with a 16-dart hold of throw. That was the only time O’Sullivan would find the outer ring though, with Greaves going through the gears to blow her away.
The 19-year-old sealed the first set 3-1 with successive finishes of 76 and 110, and went on to seal the second set 3-0 in rapid fashion with a 79 finish.
Greaves then won the third set 3-0 in 47 darts, meaning that she finished with a 90.77 average and looked in ominous form before her final meeting with Aileen de Graaf.
Sensational Landman completes impressive comeback against Klaasen
Chris Landman is through to his first World Championship final after winning four sets on the spin from 3-1 down against compatriot Jelle Klaasen.
Klaasen come out like a train, pinning 91 for a 12-darter in the match’s opening leg, but it was Landman that scrapped his way to the first set as ‘The Cobra’ started to experience some double trouble.
The next three sets all went the way of Klaasen though, with Landman winning just two more legs before the second break as the 2006 World Champion raced into what initially seemed like an unassailable lead.
Landman was not to be denied though, winning three legs on the spin to take the fifth before pinning tops at the fifth attempt to win the sixth 3-2 and level the match at 3-3.
Klaasen had had darts to win the sixth set himself but those misses took a toll and it was Landman, who finished with four 180s to Klaasen’s seven, who found an extra gear over the next two sets.
Landman took a high-class seventh set 3-1, winning his legs in 12, 14 and 13 darts, before repeating the trick in the eighth to seal his progress, a two-dart finish of 100 completing a 5-3 victory.
Dee shows his class to defeat Borbely
Ireland’s Adam Dee came from a set down to beat Andras Borbely and book his spot against Bradley van der Velden in the 2023 WDF Boys World Championship.
Hungary’s Borbely started the stronger, winning the first leg in 16 darts before sealing it 3-1 with a great 118 finish.
It was Dee’s turn to produce the big finishes after that, taking out 98 to win the second set before producing 118 and 76 outs to take the third set 3-1 and win the match 2-1 with a 74.91 average.
