Following the rescheduling of the 2022 Lakeside WDF World Championships to Saturday 2nd to Sunday 10th April, the World Darts Federation can now confirm the playing field and schedule for the men’s competition, broadcast live on Eurosport and Discovery+.
The PDC have issued the following statement, regarding players that have qualified to participate at the Lakeside in 2022, but subsequently earned places on the PDC Tour at January’s Q-School.
The Professional Darts Corporation has granted permission for seven new Tour Card Holders to compete in the 2022 WDF World Championship.
The PDC's Player Contract requires Tour Card Holders to obtain permission to compete in broadcasted events which are not organised by the PDC.
The WDF tournament had been scheduled for early January before being moved to April 2-10 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with seven qualifiers subsequently winning a PDC Tour Card at the 2022 Qualifying School in mid-January.
The PDC's Board of Directors has agreed a one-off exception to the Player Contract to permit these seven players to compete without penalty in the rearranged event should they wish.
The seven players are Nick Fullwell, Cameron Menzies, Ross Montgomery, Brian Raman, Connor Scutt, Mario Vandenbogaerde and Jules van Dongen.

Of those seven players, Ross Montgomery and Mario Vandenbogaerde have declined their invitations to participate in April.
They will be replaced in the draw by the highest ranked players in the WDF regional tables that had not previously accepted the original invitation to compete, Roman Obukhov (North Europe) and Donovan Lottering (Australia). Warren Parry (New Zealand) declined the invitation.
The highest ranked player at the end of 2021 not already seeded was Aaron Turner and he will directly advance to round two, replacing 4th seed Ross Montgomery in the draw. In the same section of the draw, Jim McEwan will face Roman Obukhov in round one, with John Desreumaux now playing Donovan Lottering. The remainder of the draw and schedule remain unchanged.
The WDF World Championships commence on Saturday 2nd April, with Lakeside legend Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams returning to “the home of world darts”. The 3-time world champion takes on exciting young debutant Jarred Cole in what is sure to be a thrilling opener to the tournament.
With the men’s line up now featuring 48 players, the opening weekend of the tournament will be filled with quick fire first round matches with players from Australia, Belgium, Canada, England, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Scotland, Sweden, USA and Wales.
The seeded players enter the competition in round two, including the two men that topped the WDF world rankings in 2021, Brian Raman (Belgium) and Thibault Tricole (France). Former Lakeside semi-finalist Richard Veenstra (Netherlands) and talented teenager Luke Littler (England) are also amongst the seeds, along with 2020 World Champion Wayne Warren who will be hoping to take the new WDF trophy back to Wales.
