Austria Open Vienna 2016 – results

The Austrian Open Vienna 2016 was played from Friday June 24th to Sunday June the 26th, at the Hilton Garden Inn Vienna South, in Vienna. In the singles events on Saturday, 200 men, 43 women, 25 boys and nine girls competed for the titles. While the men’s title holder of 2015, Dany Bloom from the Netherlands, went out early this year, his fellow countryman Wouter Vaes, who was seeded as number 2, reached the final. His opponent there was the number 13 seed Robert Allenstein from Germany. After an exciting game, where both players had match darts, Robert Allenstein won in the decisive 11th Leg of the match and is the new champion of the Austrian Open Vienna.

In the women’s event, Veronika Ihász from Hungary was able to retain her title from 2015, with a win in the 9th and last leg, against Marjolein Noijens from the Netherlands. Since 2012 Veronika was every year at least in the final of the Austrian Open Vienna and won it four out of five times, which is surely a fantastic accomplishment.

In the final of the boys’ event, Austrians young  local hero Rusty-Jake Rodriguez won 4:1 against the German youngster Phillip Wunsch. It was the second time in the row, that the 15 year old Rusty-Jake, the biggest talent in Austrian darts, won the youth title of the Austrian Open Vienna. He also showed his talent in the men’s event, where he won against the number 1 seed Willem Mandigers (NED), and only lost in a tight quarterfinal, after missing two match darts against Daniel Bohony (CZE).

The girls’ final was won by last year’s runner-up Bokor Boglàrka from Hungary. She won 3:0 against young Barbora Hospodárská from the Czech Republic.

Congratulations to all winners and a big thank you to all participants. We hope you enjoyed the tournament, and that we see each other again in 2017.
