Dutch Open Darts Postponed Until September

The Dutch Open Darts, the largest open darts tournament in the world, which was scheduled to take place on February 5, 6 and 7 in 2021 has been postponed and been rescheduled for 3, 4 and 5 September due to the ongoing issues surrounding the corona crisis.

“Everyone will understand that the Dutch Open in its current form in this corona crisis simply cannot continue”, said Paul Engelbertink, director of the Dutch Darts Association and tournament director of the Dutch Open Darts.

“With the knowledge we have today we can only assume that February will not work for such an event where potentially 7,000 people come to the venue every day. In addition, we also need time to prepare the event. It is important that we look ahead to what may be possible and that is why we have moved the event to the beginning of September. We are communicating this information now so that all darts players, fans, partners and the WDF (World Darts Federation), can prepare for it. We hope that we can organize another wonderful darts party for you in September. That’s what we aim for”, says Engelbertink.

Christa de Ruiter, director of De Bonte Wever, where the Dutch Open has been held since 2014, indicates that she has already taken the relocation into account. “We are good at switching quickly in the event of changing circumstances and adapting to what is happening around you, but an event of this calibre in the current time is simply not realistic. The Dutch Open Darts is a valuable fixture in our agenda. For us it is one of the largest and most fantastic events of the year and is also important for the city of Assen and the wider region. We would of course like to move along to another period and sincerely hope to be able to organise the unique spectacle that is the Dutch Open Darts, together with the NDB in September.”

All people that have booked a room at De Bonte Wever for 5, 6, and 7 February 2021 will receive an email from De Bonte Wever with further information about their hotel booking.
