Aurora Fochesato made darting history as she became the first Italian to win on the Lakeside stage with a 2-0 victory over Krisztina Turai in the WDF Girls World Championship final.
The 17-year-old Italian swept a scrappy first set 3-0 that saw both players struggle to find their rhythm.
Following the break, the standard improved with Fochesato producing a match-best 15-darter before Turai went 2-1 up in the second set with an 82 checkout.
Turai then missed a clutch of darts to take the match to a third set and Fochesato duly punished her, pinning double 16 to make it 2-2 before winning the set’s deciding leg in 22 darts.
Fochesato finished with a 59.43 average and becomes the second winner of the Girls World Championship after England’s Eleanor Cairns in 2022.
