Sophie McKinlay and Kirsi Viinikainen made history in Budapest as both came through the WDF Women's World Championship Qualifier to secure their Lakeside debuts.
McKinlay is now on course to play in both the Girls and Women's World Championships in the same year, while Viinikainen will become the first Finnish female to step on that iconic Frimley Green stage.
18-year-old sensation McKinlay, a winner of three Women's WDF ranking events, began her day with two dramatic victories over Priscilla Steenbergen and Vicky Pruim. She survived multiple match darts to beat the former, while against the latter she pinned a 12-darter in the deciding leg.
From there, progress for 'The Trophy' was much more straightforward. She posted her highest average of the day, an 85.89, in a 4-0 win over Helene Sundelin before subsequently sweeping past German pair Julia Siek and Monique Lessmeister.
In the decider, McKinlay faced Czech up-and-comer Anna Votavova. Votavova had caused a shock earlier in the event by defeating Europe Cup Singles champion Robyn Byrne, but she couldn't find a way past McKinlay, who ran out a 6-4 winner with a 72.94 average.
Finland's Viinikainen has long been one of the best players on the circuit not to have played in the Women's World Championship but that will all change later this year.
Compared to McKinlay, Viinikainen's progress through the qualifier was much smoother. She whitewashed Nicolina Borg and Kosuzu Iwao in her first two games before pipping Wales international Eve Watson 4-3.
Two further whitewashes followed against Wendy Harper and Anna Forsmark to set up a final round meeting with Germany's Steffi Luck. In a nip-and-tuck clash, Viinikainen recovered from missing match darts in the 10th leg to win it in a decider and secure her spot at 'The Home of World Darts'.
