The 14th June 2012 was yet another sad day for Darts in our country. Words cannot even begin to express our sorrow with the news of the passing away of the Late Mr Mervyn Johnson.
The sport of darts is deeply indebted to Mervyn for his loyal and committed service to the sport throughout the Republic of South Africa.
Mervyn was involved in darts since 1972 when he joined the Malvern Darts Club. He was the General Secretary of the SA Darts Board of Control (SADBOC) from 1976 to 1992. Mervyn lead the formation of the unified Darts Body in South Africa (Darts SA), which today celebrates its 20th anniversary. He managed the Castle Lager sponsored Darts Championships for 14 years. During his time with Darts SA he was the General Secretary for 8 years and then the Business Manager/PRO for 6 years. He was also a long serving Chairperson and Life Member of South Peninsula Darts Association (SPRA)
We mourn the passing of this icon of our sport. He was a dedicated, principled administrator, a very good friend and a wise mentor to many in the sport.
