The 2024 WDF World Championships will kick off at the home of world darts on Friday, 29th November with former WDF World No.1 Brian Raman facing Dutch debutant Corne Groeneveld for the right to face Martyn Turner in the second round.
Across 18 sessions and 10 days of darting drama, 84 players will grace the iconic Lakeside stage as we crown the latest WDF World Champions across the Girls’, Boys’, Women’s and Men’s competitions.
In addition to Raman v Groeneveld, the new Friday evening opening session will feature three further Men’s First Round matches: Scott Walters v Craig Brown, Francois Schweyen v Michael Cassar and Carl Wilkinson v Jacob Taylor.
Saturday afternoon will see 2023 Irish Open champion Shane McGuirk make his Lakeside debut, with Matthew Edgar enjoying the same experience that evening when he faces reigning Dutch Open winner Jarno Bottenberg.
The winners of Raman/Groeneveld and Schweyen/Cassar will return on the evening of Saturday, 30th November to take on England’s Martyn Turner and the top seed from Australia, Danny Porter.
Lisa Ashton begins her bid for a fifth World Championship when she faces Sophie McKinlay on Sunday evening, a session that will also feature seeded players Cliff Prior and Nicole Regnaud.
The Men’s and Women’s first round will wrap up on Monday, 2nd December, with Monday evening’s special attraction being the return of the legendary Paul Lim to Lakeside for the first time in three decades. The 70-year-old will be looking to recap his nine-dart magic from 1990 against Moreno Blom at the start of a session that will also feature Deta Hedman and Australian duo Brandon Weening and Peter Machin.
Beau Greaves will begin her title defence on Tuesday evening against either Amanda Loch or Kirsi Viinikainen. That game is part of a stellar session also set to feature 2022 Men’s World Champion Neil Duff and the new Men’s WDF World No.1, Jimmy van Schie.
Quarter-Final action in the Boys tournament begins on Thursday, with the semi-final lineups for all four World Championships being confirmed on a bumper Friday.
Saturday, 7th December, the first of two days broadcast live and uninterrupted on BLAZE, will be ‘Semi-Final Saturday’, with the finalists in the Girls’, Boys’, Women’s and Men’s tournaments being determined ahead of four World Champions being crowned on Sunday, 8th December.
